Walrtraud Putz Obituary

Waltraud H. Putz (Popp), 83, of Worthington, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 17, 2022. Born in 1938 in Köln, Germany, Wallie lived through the chaos and adversity of World War II as a small child. But Wallie was a brave and resourceful girl! At the age of 15 she traveled by herself to Chicago to be an au pair for the family at the German consulate. At German dances, she met Heinz Putz, another German immigrant, and fell in love. They married in 1959. They loved to visit friends they'd met while living in Chicago, IL, San Jose, CA, Lincolnwood, IL and eventually Worthington, OH. Wallie always insisted on taking their cat on the road trips! Friends and family will remember Wallie for many reasons. She was a great mother, raising and supporting three children to graduate as OSU Buckeyes. She adored and often cared for and visited her five grandchildren. She was a skilled crafter, creating beautiful baskets, jewelry, and knitted and crocheted items. She golfed, coached softball, and was a great cook. In her later years, she learned and loved to line dance and perform. She and Heinz thoroughly enjoyed all the people and activities at the Griswold Center, especially playing and often beating the men at table tennis. She is survived by her husband, Heinz R. Putz of Worthington Christian Village; her children, Karl Putz of Dublin, OH, Melanie Brotz of Burlington, VT, Michelle Putz of Salida, CO; and grandchildren, Lauren, Nicholas, and Tommy Putz, and Jeremy and Elena Brotz.

The family hopes to hold a celebration of life in the spring. Those wishing to receive an invite can send an email to heinzandwallie@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to Cat Welfare Association, www.catwelfareassoc.org.
